Diligent: having or showing care and conscientiousness in one's work or duties. (Conscientiousness: the quality of wishing to do one's work or duty well and thoroughly.)
Years ago, I never would have thought that I could or would be diligent about doing housework, and that is one of the reasons why I am now diligent and thorough in my daily cleaning duties -- I never thought I could do it! There is a lot of satisfaction that comes from doing something I never thought I could do.
I don’t know when it happened, but one day I realized that avoiding my home didn’t make me better, it only made me ignorant of how to take care of my home; and doing housework while grumbling or wishing I was done didn’t help my state of mind, it actually made me dislike the work even more. It’s not that I wake up and can’t wait to do housework now; it’s that I wake up knowing what needs to be done each day and challenging myself to the day’s work without giving in to distractions that don’t help me reach my goals.
I have worked hard at reprogramming my brain and how I view the importance of doing daily housework in my role as a housewife.
I have learned to be diligent in my daily duties by living in the moment of doing housework, and showing care for my home by cleaning it without being on autopilot, and feeling good about what I do while doing it to the best of my abilities.
The more diligent I am and the more I improve my home, the better I feel about myself for overcoming years of ignorance; and relaxing in a clean home makes me feel better too.
