June 2021 Housework Diary

Fact of life: Housework never goes away.

That is why I don’t do more housework than is necessary in one day, because it will be there the next day, and the next day, and the next. 

I don’t mind though, because that’s the reality of life -- there is always work to do -- and I don’t think being a housewife excuses me from work or taking my work seriously.

One reason I prefer not doing more than is necessary in a day is that on the rare occasion I need to do more, my daily schedule can accommodate it. 

For instance, during this month of June my husband took two days off from work, Thursday and Friday, to tackle a household project together.

So, rather than have my weekly Thursday and Friday tasks to do on top of the project, I shifted my Thursday tasks to Wednesday, and the Wednesday tasks to Tuesday; since Friday is a lighter day I didn’t shift those tasks. 

Tuesday and Wednesday became very busy days for me that week, yet I was able to get all my weekly tasks done so that Thursday and Friday I only had my daily tasks to do; it was also the week I cleaned windows, mirrors, and pictures, which I did on Monday and Tuesday instead of later in the week, and it felt great to get it done early.

The end of that week the record-breaking heat hit us and the project was put on hold, but I learned another good thing about being a full-time childless housewife is that I can adjust my tasks as needed by waiting until the cool of the late evening to get work done since I don’t have to get up early. 

Even though I could get more done every day than I normally do, the week of June 21st reminded me why it’s good to pace myself -- because housework never goes away!
